"This technology will one day unite the peoples of the world, under one government, speaking one language, believing in one god".

They said that about radio in the 1920s. Every economic and stock market boom has always been accompanied with an ideological new paradigm. In the 20s we had the "machine age". Get the excellent book machine age ideology. Now we have the "New Economy" and the fraud gurus like George Gilder who espouse it principles. Its all crap. But the thing he says about this era are pretty much identical to the machine age folks of the 1920s. The machine age gurus disappeared into the dust pan of history after the bubble popped. Gilder will have the same fate.
