Scumbria, I believe you are wrong. It is a basic tenet of Marxist philosophy that islands of socialism (or communism) cannot survive in a sea of capitalistic societies. The difference between Troskyites and Stalinists was only in tactics, namely how fast should socialism (communism) be exported to the rest fo the world. Trotsky believed that the time was ripe (in the early 1920 to early 1930, particularly during the world wide depression) while Stalin felt that Socialism should first be strongly established in Russia before attempting its "exportation". Lenin backed Trotsky, purely on "theoretical grounds". It seems that Stalin took care of his opposition in the normal manner of the revolutionary world (In the best tradition set by Robespierre). The basic philosophy (which proved right) was always exportation of socialism to the rest of the world. By the way, that philosophy was derived directly from Thomas Moore (Utopia).
