Actually I was really glad that I hadn't run into some incredible os corruption problem that would have required a reinstall of 98 and a prolonged call to Dell <g>. Also, it is a major wakeup call as to the wisdom that many have shared about creating a setup image.

BTW, after poring over the Dell catalogue and reading bunches of posts, I am summoning my courage to install W2k instead of wimping out and buying a whole new machine just because it has W2k already installed <g>. Michael Watkins made a couple of posts on Dream Machine that lead me to think I ought to just get some guts and do the W2k install myself. Next challenge: get W2k on sale for fifty bucks!!
