Certain options transactions are permitted in cash accounts, although some firms require that they be done only in margin accounts.

The rules permit long options, covered calls, and cash-secured puts to be done in cash accounts. Naturally, they must be fully paid for or (in the case of the puts) fully covered by available cash or cash equivalent securities.
