Since netlibrary controls a portion of the huge ebook publishing arena, doesn't gmst have to strike a deal with them ($$$) in order to insure they don't lose this critical piece of the puzzle? This is a reply I received from netlibrary when I asked them if I can download textbooks from Houghton Mifflin onto my RCA device. "Thank you for visiting netLibrary! Unfortunately, no, we do not have any immediate plans to allow the support of our eBooks via GemStar technologies or the RCA reader. netLibrary eBooks can only be read via our proprietary software, the netLibrary eBook Reader. We are, however, very proud of our recent contract with Houghton-Mifflin to begin the production of eTextbooks. Our subsidiary, www.MetaText.com, aims to be the leader in textbook technology.

As for the most secure reader software out there, it's difficult to answer this question without some bias, of course. We pride ourselves on the technology that we have designed which allows remote users to read our eBooks online and offline, all while protecting the copyrights of the publications we offer. At this time, we have several hundred publishers signed with our service because they believe in the integrity of our service and our policies/technologies on protecting copyrights. Once a student has created an affiliated netLibrary account (that is, an account that is recognized as a member of a certain library), the student can log into this account from any computer in the world, any time of day, to gain access to their library's collection of eBooks free of charge. At present, we have more than 30,000 eBooks on our web site, and continue to add hundreds more weekly. As far as quality of our eBooks goes, no other similar service can compare!"
