The reason I offered the Miami-Dade example to you is that I believe the Democratic Party-controlled canvassing board there stopped when it became clear to them that they were NOT going to find an appreciable number of new Gore votes, and worse, they might find more Bush votes.


Your reason doesn't make sense because only a full recount had any hope of counting; the partial recount was useless to the Democrats. There is no way to know the voting pattern of missed votes before you actually look at them, but the working assumption that it will follow the pattern of overall votes is not unreasonable.

I find your position of saying "aha, you assumed something, so all your conclusions are false" is misleading and annoying. An educated guess or a reasonable assumption is not the same as a wish contrary to all known facts.
