I would be amazed if there are many zealotous historians- real historians, not the partisan kind. The historians I've met were always a tad cynical and very skeptical. When the weight of world history pours down on you, I think you begin to see that no people are the chosen people, that no people appear to be very good, and that all people think they are anyway. You also begin to suspect that no one has any real answers, because if they did SOME people would stand out, and no one does (well, the Buddhists stand out to me, but then that's because I value their compassion and non violence. I suppose if you valued bigotry, intolerance and violence other religions would stand out- including BUT NOT LIMITED TO, the Christians and Muslims. It's all relative isn't it?)
