I don't think there is any question of right or wrong here, both sides of the arguments actually have sound basis, but what is a bigger problem is usually the impression that any of the major players are noble people --- they are ambitious people who are not going to let things like facts get in their way. The political equivalent of Adam Smith's invisible hand at work, I guess...

Something's not right. The US supreme court decision should remove almost all doubt, but the market is not rallying...

Oops. Should I unload some of what I picked up this mornig?

richard,

The initial comments have probably been clarified in the last 8 messages, but it sounds as if its still an open issue. The US court has basically said to the Fla court "we see your answer, but don't know how you got there; can you please clarify". The Fla court can send up a clarification and the US court could still say "it looks okay to us". It sounds like some justification based on the Florida constitution only would satisfy the issue. Meanwhile, the other trials can continue in the event that it is upheld. The Leon county judge has postponed his ruling until he figures out how US court affects him. Talking heads are saying that US court is hoping that the local trials will make it a moot point (e.g. Sander Sauls, or whatever, rules for Bush side, etc.).

Public support for Gore is going to start to wane quickly, though, IMO and while these things shouldn't be decided on public opinion, the reality is that it will.
