4 months of NAPM below 50 does not mean that growth is going to 0. So far it simply means that growth is slowing. Traditionally whenever the NAPM has had a reading below 50 for 4 months in a row the fed has cut rates in about 2 months. This points to a rate cut at the Jan meeting. Of course if the fed does not cut rates soon enough then we certainly can see growth continue to falter and even go negative. If past is any guidance then Greenspan & co will not allow that to happen.
