To: Chris land who wrote (3929 ) 12/4/2000 2:38:48 PM From: cosmicforce Respond to of 28931 I'm puzzled by this. Solon doesn't seem to be a man of ill-will and I'm sure he'd be able to see reason if it was reasonable. Why would God bother to make the bible incomprehensible to him? By making it incomprehensible to him, he obscures it from me and a bunch of others as well. I want to seek truth and am not the enemy of God but I still find the bible dull, impersonal, irrelevant and uninspiring. Your instructions to read with a fine tooth comb with a concordance seem to support the position that the work is uninspiring and unintelligible to people of wit. Do you need a fine tooth comb to understand the speeches of MLK or other great speakers? No. How do you know that it isn't YOU that is delusional? Isn't it easier just to follow Jesus' very simple rules. He doesn't say squat about reading the bible. Here is what he actually said (if you believe the bible): Matthew 19:17 "Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments." 18 "Which ones?" the man inquired. Jesus replied, "`Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,' and `love your neighbor as yourself.' " 20 "All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?" 21 Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." It is funny that THE VERY LAST THING he wants is for you to follow him, and only if you want to be perfect. God and Jesus don't expect us to be perfect but to act decently (in accordance with some of the 10 Commandments).
