I'm puzzled by this. Solon doesn't seem to be a man of ill-will and I'm sure he'd be able to see reason if it was reasonable. Why would God bother to make the bible incomprehensible to him? By making it incomprehensible to him, he obscures it from me and a bunch of others as well. I want to seek truth and am not the enemy of God but I still find the bible dull, impersonal, irrelevant and uninspiring.

Your instructions to read with a fine tooth comb with a concordance seem to support the position that the work is uninspiring and unintelligible to people of wit. Do you need a fine tooth comb to understand the speeches of MLK or other great speakers? No.

How do you know that it isn't YOU that is delusional? Isn't it easier just to follow Jesus' very simple rules. He doesn't say squat about reading the bible. Here is what he actually said (if you believe the bible):

Matthew 19:17 "Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments."
18 "Which ones?" the man inquired. Jesus replied, "`Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony,
19 honor your father and mother,' and `love your neighbor as yourself.' "
20 "All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?"
21 Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

It is funny that THE VERY LAST THING he wants is for you to follow him, and only if you want to be perfect. God and Jesus don't expect us to be perfect but to act decently (in accordance with some of the 10 Commandments).

I strongly suggest you take what I said here very seriously

These kinds of threats are precisely why it is worth the time to prove to yourself whether a God can exist or not. If you haven't taken the time to understand why a deity could not carry out what is ascribed, if you havent' taken the time to move from agnostic to atheist, then there is always that Pascal Wager problem of wondering whether you should consider pissing off a diety that may know more about you than Santa Claus.

Firstly, Chris, I am surprised that you would admit to the scriptures where God counsels lying, murder, and other evils, and where he admits to these attributes. Most Christians would interpret these clear words until they disappeared entirely.

Unfortunately, the reason you are capable of taking the bible at face value is precisely because you are an obsessive/compulsive fanatic. In spite of the effect you sometimes have upon decent and innocent people...I can't help but feeling compassion for you in your mighty struggle to make sense of your life.

If you would just look in the mirror one day and realize that you don't need to live your life by proxy, but can walk into the world doing good, and being the decent person you really are at your inner core...you would know what it is like to walk with a light step, with no weight of unearned guilt upon your shoulders. This is my hope for you.
