Because of the ablity of top quality Pacific Rim Manufacturers ablity to make units with profit per unit, unlike Handspring's (HAND)contracted manufacturing facilities, this is a huge blow to HAND, and IMO will take the stock to the sub-20 dollar level in the long term. The "intelligent phones" will be able to use all Palm operating system-based applications, the companies said in a joint news release. A Samsung 05930 handset using the CDMA technology standard will be on store shelves in North America in the second quarter of next year. The agreement, Palm's PALM latest in which it has licensed its operating system to a mobile phone maker, will combine a next-generation Web-surfing wireless phone with the full data-management capabilities of a personal digital assistant, Samsung said. To date, 125,000 Palm operating system software program developers have created more than 7,000 software applications for the Palm operating system. While PC sales during the critical holiday period have been far slower than expected, analysts are quite bullish on other types of high-tech gizmos. "It is pretty clear, according to the retailers we spoke with, that Palm devices are near the top of a lot of wish lists this holiday season," wrote Bear Stearns analyst Andy Neff in a note. A survey he and an associate conducted found that demand for PDAs made by Handspring Inc. HAND was also greater than expected but demand for other PDAs was less robust. That group would include PDAs using, for example, Microsoft Corp.'s MSFT Windows CE operating system.
