But in that case they arguably re-wrote the law. I would assume that the same principle would continue to inform the FL SC in future decisions, regardless of whether or not the US SC decides that they overstepped the mark in Harris.

The Harris decision has really backfired for Gore. If they had allowed Harris to certify on the 14th, they could have convinced the three counties in question to continue counting for the purposes of a contest, and they would now have the results of hand-counts performed with very liberal standards from both Broward and Miami-Dade, plus the current Palm Beach results. They could have simply presented these counts to Judge Sauls and ask that the election be overturned, a vastly simpler case to make as it would have side-stepped most of the ballot integrity and statistical issues.
