Perhaps it is more strategic than this. If China is going to produce components, the potential ramp up of needed ASICs could far exceed whatever clout Q* has in the fab marketplace. Combined with TI the clout could possibly have potentiating effects allowing the throttling back of INTC and PrairieComm clout in this arena. Forwarding into 2002 or 2003 for wCDMA components, the picture gets very complex, but for now, as in true Gorilla Game fashion the market must standardize upon a SINGLE platform ASAP to enable the most powerful tornado to encourage killer apps and discourage niche Chimps from eroding market share. The bargaining chip of *strategy* only works with well-established players going for the long haul. Chimps are notoriously short lived relative to Gorillas.
