OT: good post kb. Other posters musing on IQ should cut
some slack to those who don't just grow up in different cultures, but have their genes shaped over millenia by radically different environments. Slider makes a good point about whether persons defined as a group <<have built some degree of cultural success & tasted economic progress>> and he references the squalid state of Africa.

I'd be slower than some others here to demean black Americans as a group for lagging from slave status that is singular and only a few generations past. Consider, also, to what extent we are all products of natural selection in our ancestors' respective environments. In Africa, over millenia, you'd have great "cultural success" if you avoided being lunch for countless large and vicious beasts. You'd have economic success if you managed to compete with those same predators for your own food. It shouldn't be surprising that persons recently extracted (in genetic time) from Earth's most dangerous environment excel, statistically and taken as a group, at facing physical challenges.

Yes, it's all about culture, but not all cultures transplant equally well to our capitalist society and its premium upon mental prowess. But that's politically incorrect, so I stop.

OT last time, promise...

KB...after my long diatribe, you said it so succinctly:

>>THAT PARENTING (a sort of cultural software, if you will) will produce children of superior IQ, according to all standard tests.

Success is a combination of "grey matter" IQ and "cultural" IQ.

When and where that is lost, the damage will go on replicating itself generation after generation.

By the way, if "success" is determined by how much money you end up with, I saw a study that it is actually median to high IQ, not the super intelligent that make it in business.
