Why don't you hold him to his offer but ask him to donate the money to a charity...Coats for Kids, Toys for Tots, Meals on Wheels, or whatever your head and heart fancies. He will get a tax deduction IF the charity qualifies and you get to help your favorite cause.

There are so many people out there that could benefit from that one thousand dollars.

By the way, for those asking about why someone needs the name of a lawyer...you don't need the name of a lawyer to sue but sometimes a lawyer can straighten out a client when he/she is digging him/herself a hole. Of course, the opposite can happen and the lawyer can exacerbate the problem.
