Initial stories indicated dual core Sledgehammer followed by single core clawhammer. Current plans seem to call for single core clawhammer followed by either a dual core Sledge or a large cache sledge.

I don't know which is more likely. They are probably evaluating both approaches and AMD may be trying to avoid too much attention on the hammers just yet. A shared L2 in a dual core chip might be a real advantage, or it might just add to costs. They may have to get pretty far down the development road before they know which is the case.

Maybe someone else out there can add some comments.
