I always keep crash puts on hand now on real junk or overvalued hype plays - hand, rimm, amzn, yhoo...these have a fair chance of undeperforming even in a good market, though conversely they also tend to suck in widespread clown buying, probably on the expectation that the slow of the clown herd, the "hindmost" so to speak, will buy from them at a higher levels.

You ought to take a look at some old econ shorts, puts can be had more cheaply than the high betas but the 50% haircuts are still a good possibility. If Dow rallies too here, I will load up Dec 2001 DJX puts
