The ALI vs. AMD DDR chipset comparison that Pravin referenced was very significant, IMO. fullon3d.com

The Iwill board using the ALi DDR chipset was pitted against a Gigabyte board with the AMD 760.

Not only was the ALi board more stable, working up to 144 MHz FSB, but it was quite a bit faster than the 760 board. For example, using PC2100:
Quake3, Unreal, MDK2 (games) - ALi 4 to 5% faster than 760
Content Creation Winstone 2000 - ALi 6% faster
Business Benchmarks - ALi 2 to 3% faster
3DStudio Max - ALi 7% faster
SPECViewPerf (3 tests where P4 beat Athlon) - ALi 4% faster
SPECViewPerf (3 other tests) - ALi 7% faster

There is a memory benchmark which shows that the ALi chipset has significantly better DDR bandwidth at both PC1600 and PC2100 speeds, but the latency isn't quite as good as the 760 chipset. But these are prerelease boards.

These tests were run using a pre-production Iwill board and the only thing the reviewers could find wrong with its stability is with the ATI Radeon, but a driver fix is in the works.

Also, they used a Duron 600 overclocked to 800 for most of their tests. (Typical miserly hardware site!) This would tend to exaggerate differences between the two chipsets in memory performance because of the Duron's tiny L2.

THe Iwill motherboard using the ALi DDR chipset is supposed to be available in a week or two. The AMD 760 motherboards are delayed until January.

Finally, a partner does something right!
