...I'm only going to make one last post regarding this
election...

Face it, JDN. You're an Electionholic. And a sloppy one.

I like Robt Bork. Aside from the fact that he draws his
salary from the same interest he's representing, that
bastard should be the *last guy talking about this Mr. W
Goes to Washington (Supreme Court) stuff.

All of this crap has brought out the worst in both parties.
If you want to know who the worst *is in either party,
they're the ones doing all the talking lately. Apparently,
Robt Bork is among the worst of the Republicans.

After being a registered Republican since 18, I won't be
one after this election cycle.

But whatever the outcome of the litigations in Florida, the deeper problem is that a spirit of inflamed partisanship is revealing fault lines throughout our society. An open and unashamed win-at-all-costs mentality has been let loose upon the land, due initially to Bill Clinton but now practiced, if possible, even more blatantly by his acolyte Al Gore. As the old unspoken restraints fail, we inevitably turn to courts to repair what has been broken. But that tactic will ultimately fail and will damage the judiciary in the process.
Learned Hand was right: "[This] much I think I do know--that a society so riven that the spirit of moderation is gone, no court can save; that a society where that spirit flourishes, no court need save; that in a society which evades its responsibility by thrusting upon the courts the nurture of that spirit, that spirit in the end will perish."

With all due respect.

While I agree to the first part of the statement in respect to the potential legal implications that the failure of the Supreme Court to act decisively will bring, which in plain English goes to re-affirm the deep divisions that exist in this country.

However the above part of the statement also re-affirms the HYPOCRISY that now is blatant in BOTH parties. This will only go to prove, once again, the division I mentioned.

Ironically, the last part of the statement also re-affirms the very same thing that Mr. Bork complains.

The unrestrained "win-at-all-costs mentality"

Could you imagine what the stock market AND the economy would look like if Alan Greenspan were NOT at the helm ?

Can you spell Banana Republic ?
