I needed to go out early this morning for some blood work and on the way home, stopped for some apples and eggs. The direct route from fruit to eggs leads through the in-store bakery. It was early and they were putting stuff out on the shelves. The smells. The smells!

I yielded to the temptation and decided to pick up a little something for myself. What a wonderful experience it was to walk slowly around the displays and aisles deciding on what to get. I examined each item and was drawn to the next with my nose. All this against the backdrop of the smell of freshly baked bread and pastry. I settled on a cranberry muffin.

At home, eating this treasure brought back the memories of my visit to the store. And these images brought back childhood recollections of mother baking bread and biscuits for us when we returned from school. In those days, we'd make a meal out of just bread and butter. Coupled with the snow, Christmas decorating, smells, and memories, I felt like a kid again.

Cheers, PW.

P.S. I should've got some oatmeal-raisin cookies too, but didn't. Maybe next time.
