What do you call an Asian American failure?

We just had one here by Tenafly. I believe Korean immigrant family whose daughter was I believe attending Seton Hall. She lived the stereo typical Asian american immigrant life portrayed in the media, A+ in everything, music etc. But in the end she committed suicide cracking under the pressure of the Asian American dream. Her family did not know her mental health had deteriorated in school, because they were to busy working many hours.

The picture painted in the local papers is not hard to imagine. The Asian immigrant monomaniacal pursuit of money/success that you have commented on has a big price to pay.

Somewhere in between the extremes a balanced life supporting happiness can be found.

Economic success in this country has very little to do with race, there are no groups of white folk holding down
people of color, no matter what Jesse Jackson says.

I think you might consider a retraction of the above statement, kb. Whether or not the general public or media acknowledges the realities of today's world, racism exists in America. It's nasty face shows itself all to often. While the bulk of this occurs in the south, the north has it's moments as well. I've seen it first hand many times. In black, white and asian communities. It's usually targeted against anyone who is perceived as an outsider. Those people who rise above these downward pressures and excel deserve all the credit in the world but racism is rampant in America.

It's a sad but true situation in today's real world.

Oh, and one other thing, how dare you put down my favorite jukebox tune<vbg>!! Theirs is not the inheritance of Saturday nights at a speakeasy with "Gimme a pigfoot and a bottle of beer" on the
jukebox.
