A couple comments on HealtheTech: Either I'm very dense (a distinct possibility), or this company needs to clarify the practical use of this product. If I'm reading their text correctly, the BodyGem/metabolism information offered on the website, besides being wordy, seems to come down to this: their product measures resting metabolic rate, which, as they explain, translates to a total daily caloric burn - 'daily' being the key word. The paragraph continues, "Understanding an individual's unique metabolism is key for successful health monitoring, weight management, and fitness."

Under the heading "Why is it necessary to measure RMR?" they give an answer: "The handheld BodyGem, a tool for indirect calorimetry, provides an accurate picture of a patient's caloric needs and will improve care through nutrition assessment."

Unless I'm wrong, I read this as an end-of-the-day daily reading of calories spent. Not sure that I'm impressed with that. I believe that the CTI gives a calorie burn per activity, right after the fact. A lot more useful.

Other: at this point, they're only gearing themselves to the Palm market - smart, but narrow right now. The other products (Palm software): basically they're what they say they are - logs.

I don't see an offer of physician/professional monitoring/advice or anything of the sort.

I really don't see this as competition.
Just a couple late night thoughts.
