Jeff, the president had a chance to do the following and didn't. I don't care what everybody else says, I do believe that the govt CAN do some good.

1) He had a chance to fix the education system. He had a chance to demand that there be national standards against which schools (for which many pay without having any kids) be judged. He hasn't.
2) Elderly needn't face the bad choices they face when it comes to paying for drugs. I don't know the answer, but at least some experiments need to be carried out.
3) Uncle sam shouldn't be a grinch and take away a lot of money when someone dies. I know of a jeweller here (Ben Bridges) in Seattle which had to sell their family business because the govt demanded them to pay the death tax. I can't imagine what would happen if to MSFT/ORCL stocks if their major shareholder dies. It is not fair.
4) Do something about social security. Why should I pay a tax into a system under the guise of being forced to do something good for my retirement years when NOBODY thinks that there will be returns for me when I really get old ?

I could go on and on. I seriously believe that the bubba had a chance to do something which could have made him one of the greatest presidents in history. He certainly had the personal charm and pursuasiveness to do it. He was definitely one of the best potential presidents in history when he took office.

He squandered it...
