"it is much simpler to tell the truth because, you don't have to explain the truth" I agree with this philosophy 100%. Problem is you do need to explain the truth to many demos, as this case shows. How do so many of them see the ruling of Judge Sauls as anything other than a logical interpretation of Florida law? Mario Cuommo is a good example. I used to respect Cuommo, but not any more. He is an unreasonable democratic hack that will say whatever is necessary to support his position, whether it involves the truth or not. Obviously does not go by your simple philosophy.
