My starling gun control issue...

I lived in the country. I had a starling who insisted on attacking my windows. Every morning at sunrise he'd begin bashing my windows, and would continue until dark. The noise was driving me nuts. The mess he made was undescribable. I called every resource available to help me with this situation and was shunted from one desk to the next. I was desperate. A neighbour suggested I have the bird shot. I didn't want this. A couple of weeks later, I thought "It's either him or my sanity" so I talked to the kid across the street and asked him if he'd come over and get rid of my bird. He said he didn't have time, but he'd send his son before school. Now, in my area, school busses arrive EARLY, so the job was to take place even earlier. He quietly tip-toed around to the back of my house and waited under my bedroom window. Sure enough, the bird arrived to begin 'work' for the day. There was a house-shaking boom. I nearly hit the ceiling! I looked out and there he was, shovel in hand, burying the bird. I paid him $5 and considered it a bargain.

Later, I asked if the gun issue had much impact for him. He filled my ear about how he would enjoy shooting with his father, and now how his son enjoys shooting with him. He seemed concerned that he won't be able to share time in the field or blind with his grand-son. I never thought about it much, just assumed that most people have guns needlessly and any move towards limiting their number, the better. Like so many, I got my 'gun education' from TV crime shows, and didn't realize that so many people enjoy stomping through corn-stubble looking for something different for dinner.

Cheers, PW.

Nice to see that trend outlined by someone who can't be labelled as an Alberta conspiracy-theory loony.

I ditto your thanks.....I used to think there were only 3 sane people east of the Red River, now I'm certain there are 4 of them <gg>
