It would be nice if such upgrade/downgrade histories showed the price the stock was trading at when the upgrade or downgrade occured.

yahoo has more comprehensive list of earnings upgrades/downgrades at its company profile section at:

biz.yahoo.com

Notice the multiple downgrades in June and July 1998 a few months prior to the bottom of the previous cycle. Hopefully, history will repeat itself and the October/November downgrades of 2000 are marking this bottom as well. Analyst ratings have definitely been a fairly reliable contrary indicator--probably because they behave as momentum investors which does not work for a cyclical industry.
