I actually am trying to generalize the predominant tone of what I've read on this board from people who claim to be admirers of Mr. Bush and critics of Mr. Gore. When addressing people who are supporters of Mr. Gore they are almost always insulting. For example, one of the responses to the post that you also responded to called me and others who like Al Gore, "gorons", which, pretty obviously, means "morons". On other occasions I've been called Futureless, as a sort of "funny" pun on my handle. I must admit that I haven't done much thinking about what the Gore supporters do to the Bush folks on this board, but my general impression is that it is less personally insulting. However, it is true that I've tried to summarize my impression of the Bush supporters and that you could rightly challenge me to itemize the particular posts that support my conclusion. I've actually wanted to do that, and I wonder if you'd find it instructive. There are, of course, people on this board whose views I disagree with but who seem quite principled. Neocon, for example did us all a favor a few weeks ago in posting summaries of the editorial endorsements which appeared in a variety of papers before the election. That's what I'd call the act of a democrat. Unfortunately, such moments are rare on this board, and I think that's sad. It is particularly sad if the Bush supporters on this board are in any way truly representative of what is going to pass for the climate of this nation in a Bush administration. Because, if they are, rather than seeing any form of unification of the country, as Mr. Bush has incessantly promised, we are going to be in for one of the most polarized periods of American life.
