I am a Republican and the only thing I will state about your list is that a fool spent time writing it.

It must be nice to be able to place all "those" people in a nice little box. Trouble is that people don't like being in boxes and they will always find a way to stop you.

Good luck

TH

To be a modern Democrat:

All you need to do is belive that you are smarter than the rest of the people and that you have the moral authority to take by force from one person an give it to someone else who has not earned it.

Maybe you are just joking. I have been chastised for being to sensitive on this thread. But if you really believe this,

"Jesus shares your hatred of AIDS victims, homosexuals, and President Clinton."

then F*&K YOU. You are a prejudice jerk that thinks it is ok to disparage a huge group of the population. You should be ashamed of yourself.

TO BE A NEW DEMOCRAT:

1) You have to believe that the current cycle of economic prosperity began after January 20, 1993. You have to believe that releasing part of the strategic oil reserve will make a dent in the rising cost of fuel. Furthermore, in all of your environmental idealism, you have to believe that gasoline for your car comes out of the pump and not from the nation's refineries. You have to oblivious to the irony that Al Gore wants to lower fuel prices (which is an oxymoron if you take Al Gore at his word).

2) You have to believe that everyone should have the right to wealth without taking the personal responsibility to create it. You have to be convinced that all rich people inherited their wealth, or that they stole it from hard working Americans.

2a) You have to believe that a progressive tax code is fair. You believe that the government has to find ways to "pay for" a tax cut.

3) You have to expect that Government's purpose it to provide for you, and that printing more money to do it is fine if that's what it takes. Better yet, tax the rich even more. They don't need it.

4) You have to believe that it is Government's responsibility to sanction gay marriage and abortion on demand as a form of birth control.

5) You have to believe that capitalism is morally wrong, as long as you're not benefiting from it.

6) While you allegedly support the First Amendment, you believe that prayer in school is wrong.

7) You have to believe that you're so unable to be a good role model for your children that you are resigned to the fact that they are destined to have sex and get stoned before the age of eighteen. You assume that your children are dumber than you.

8) You have to believe that just because a child is unborn, means that it has no rights of its own. You prefer convenience over personal responsibility, yet you raise hell if Government infringes upon your rights.

9) You may profess to be religious, but only as long as it is convenient.

10) You have to believe that contemporary whites should pay reparations to blacks for crimes committed against them over 140 years ago. You believe that no minority is capable of success in this country without the government, and those that are must be "Uncle Toms". You profess to be believers in the message of Dr. Martin Luther King, but you're hung up on skin color over the content of one's character as the basis for failure.

11) You have to accept that it is alright for the chief law enforcement officer of this country to lie under oath in a civil case over matters you now deem to be trivial. You use the justification that it's alright, because everyone does it...

12) You have to believe that the Bill of Rights is actually an a la carte menu for you to selectively choose or turn down, when convenient to you.

13) You have to abdicate your responsibility as a parent and allow Government to provide condoms galore, since you are convinced that your children are as morally bankrupt as the self-serving, convenience oriented role model that you set for them.

14) You have to believe that special interest groups like the ACLU, NOW, and NAACP have a special claim to constitutional protection that others like the NRA should not be allowed to have. This is in keeping with your selective interpretation of the Bill of Rights when it suits your agenda.

15) You have to believe that Europe won World War II without the assistance of the United States, and that Europe has remained relatively conflict free without the help of NATO (see also the United States). You have to believe that 80% income tax rates stimulate economic growth and encourage personal financial achievement.

16) You have to believe that Government can save people from themselves.

17) You have to believe that it is normal for 6th graders to be engaging in sexual activity, and that we might as well give them the gear to do it right.

18) You have to believe that handguns, alcohol, and tobacco have killed more people in the world than Soviet and Chinese regimes. You have to also believe that handguns have a mind of their own, and are capable of killing without human intervention.

19) You have to accept that such high expressions of art as "Piss Christ" should be funded by the Government. You have to believe that Government should fund all art, and not only that which reflects the collective values of the majority of the society that funds it. You have to claim to be discriminated against when you don't get your way.

20) You have to believe that private property should be subject to government confiscation.

21) You have to have convinced yourself that Clinton's impeachment was not about the highest law enforcement officer in the land lying under oath, but simply about sex.

22) You have to believe that you know what's going on, and that anyone that disagrees with you lives in that part of the country where James Byrd and Matthew Sheppard were killed, which explains their ignorance.

23) You advocate solutions that deal with the consequences of problems rather than the causes. You prefer throwing other people's money at problems rather than taking the long view. You assume that little pills will suffice where there is a lack of personal responsibility.

Actually, I believe that the current economy is mainly a product of the digital revolution. I do think that Reagan and Bush helped, as did the Republican Congress. Clinton gets credit for respectable appointments. As for gas prices, I blame OPEC, but it is true that Clinton slapped on a steeper federal tax for gasoline.

No one I know believes that the circumstances of birth are irrelevant to one's life chances.

Few Republicans are indiscriminately against government programs.

No one is stopping anyone from getting married, that is, making a solemn commitment in their church. The question is, should these be recognized on the same basis as heterosexual marriages in law? No one is stopping anyone from speaking any language they want. The question is, what should be in official use?

No one that I know is "for" pollution. There are debates on how to curtail it, and also cost/benefit analyses of compliance with particular standards.

Few Republicans want to refight the school prayer battle, they just favor moments of silence.

Most teenagers are still virgins until they are about 19, especially if one factors for race and income.

No one that I know, outside of some Libertarians, think that all regulation is bad, and even Libertarians believe in tort actions to hold corporations accountable for damages to consumers.

Plenty of Republicans are not Christian, and certainly not Evangelicals, and few hate victims of AIDS or even homosexuals.

Most Republicans acknowledge the persistence of prejudice. They believe that it not generally virulent, however, an that the remedies are often more toxic than the problem.
And most Republicans would vote for Colin Powell.

Infidelity was not the issue.

Republicans are divided over firearms issues.

It is wise to keep condoms out of schools to show he do not encourage promiscuity.

The ACLU does worthwhile things sometimes, but it has gone beyond its mandate and become another liberal lobby.

Europe is fundamentally capitalist, and currently experiencing economic sclerosis.

AIDS funding has to judged against funding for other diseases, like cancer.

Many Republicans are not fundamentalists, and there is good reason to wonder how age- appropriate sex education material is.

No one believes that Chinese communist missiles have killed more people than blah blah blah.

Actually, much art was commissioned by the Church. In any case, government commissioned art to be used in public spaces, not to subsidize the private market. No one objects to hiring a muralist to decorate a lobby.

Opinion on old growth forests is divided.

Again, he was not impeached for infidelity.

I hope that clarifies things.......

Your "Imagine" posting apparently originated at Yale:

A U.S. history teacher at Concord-Carlisle High School, Joseph Zellner, harassed Republican students in class last week in violation of federal law, 20 U.S.C. §1232h.

He orally surveyed the students about their political party affiliation; and then, to those not in agreement with his politics, he distributed a paper with ten inflammatory points arguing that this country is no different than the third world.
.
.
.
After John Diggs, a black medical doctor in South Hadley received the above message, which apparently originated at Yale, as an email sent to a list of black people, he wrote the following:

As long as black folks fail to think independently, they will be slaves. So far, in droves, black folks did what they were told -- vote for Gore. It is not that voting for Gore in and of itself is slavish, it is that the reasons most African Americans gave for doing so were the very same reasons advertised by the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Weak. Bigger problem is that it is getting worse -- blacks supported Gore in higher percentages than they supported Clinton! What have Dems done for black folks besides make them dependent? There are fewer intact black families since Uncle Sam has replaced 'Daddy' in so many homes. Fewer than 20% of black children were born out-of-wedlock in 1960. That number is now greater than 65%!!!

What is most pathetic of all is the fact that so many of the recipients have "Dr." as a title and apparently think this article is clever and insightful rather than error-laden drivel. Doesn't say much for the analytical ability of Yale students either.

Yeah, Uncle Sam. That's my baby's daddy. Thank you DNC.

Finally, 2 Chronicles 7:14 about says it all.

(By the way, Gore did say that he would have a litmus test for the Supreme Court -- support the 'right to choose.' He never finished the sentence. He meant 'choose death for their unborn children.' The right to live, curtailed without trial and without guilt, is the most heinous human rights abuse. I am also convinced that black women have more frequent and more severe and earlier breast cancer because they have more frequent abortions. Twelve percent of the female population has 35% of the abortions.)

Hear hear Dr. Diggs. Much better response than mine.
