Steve Martins "LA Story" is an interesting film to contrast it to, at least regarding the macro theme, but is a much weaker film on all other counts. I am very surprised that you didn't think highly of "Crimes and Misdeameanors". I consider it in the top five of Allen's films. I love the play on the effect of sin, no matter how small or large, on a person's soul and how this weight has an element of choice. Martin Landau is wonderful, and was even better in Ed Wood, which is a very funny film. Johnny Depp is another outstanding actor not afraid to take real chances. To finish on Allen, "Broadway Danny Rose", I would agree is another good film. "Husbands and Wives" I don't have any strong opinions about. Allens musical is ok, but I would not recommend it to anyone. I think you mentioned "Stardust Memories" in our discussion from yesterday and it too is a favorite. I am not a huge fan of his first phase of film, but understand he had dues to pay before he gained total creative control. Still those films have their moments. Spacey is great. An actor's actor. I have been told by many people I remind them of him, which is strange as I don't look like him too much. Two people told me this after seeing American Beauty. I still don't get it. Maybe they were thinking Keiser Soze -vbg- I have no idea who directed the Grace Jones video. I do know who has directed about 90% of the commercials I have watched over the last ten year, and that would be MTV veterans. "The Godfather I & II" of course are brilliant. The best part of "You've Got Mail" were the "business" references Hanks was making from the film. Hope you get a chance to watch the Sopranos on HBO. I watch very little TV, but I do not miss this show and will tape it if I am gone. The only other thing I will tape is Tiger Woods, so I guess I am saying it is quality stuff. I am starting to watch the new Larry David sitcom on HBO and it is very clear to me who was the dark partner in the Seinfeld duo. I don't remember Victoria Avril, but that was about 10 years ago is seems. Did she have short kinda spiky hair? HAGO, got to do some work for the day job. Talk to you soon. TH
