The TI x-licensing deal differs from my original expectations because it seems as though the entire CDMA patent portfolio is being licensed without a royalty instead of just a portion of the patent portfolio that would be transferred to Spinco. I thought that Q (classic) would still collect royalties from chip, handset, and infrastructure companies regardless of any deals that Spinco chose to enter into. We still don't know the details but if my understanding is correct, Q is willing to trade chip royalties for IPR. Of course if Spinco continues its incredible success and captures a huge portion of the overall 3G chip market there wouldn't be much in the form of chip royalties to collect anyway<gg>.
