Attorney Plato Cacheris said Ray's office last week asked for the interview, to be held sometime later this month in the independent counsel's office. For months, Ray has been investigating whether to bring perjury or obstruction of justice charges after Clinton leaves office on Jan. 20, stemming from his affair with Lewinsky when she was a White House intern. Cacheris said Lewinsky, who lives in New York, was reluctantly agreeing to do the interview because her immunity agreement with the independent counsel's office required her to cooperate with the prosecutors. ``She's not enthusiastic about this,'' he said. ``She wants to get this done and over with.'' A White House spokesman had no comment. Ray's predecessor, Kenneth Starr, initially investigated the Lewinsky affair. His report to Congress led to Clinton's impeachment by the House of Representatives in December 1998 on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice. The Senate acquitted Clinton in February 1999. Ray last summer convened a federal grand jury to weigh whether to indict Clinton. Cacheris said Ray's office had not requested that Lewinsky testify before the grand jury. She earlier appeared before another grand jury that investigated the affair. Deputy Independent Counsel Keith Ausbrook said, ``We're taking ordinary steps in an open investigation in order to conclude the investigation shortly after the president leaves office.'' He would not comment about the specifics, but said such an interview would be an ``ordinary step.'' Sources said Ray wanted to complete his investigation within weeks after Clinton leaves office. dailynews.yahoo.com Greg, Not that it will ever happen but you must admit the thought of Bill Clinton cooling his heels in jail surrounded by his team of Secret Service agents is fairly amusing. gregg
