Gore has known about Seminole for some time. I believe that's why Lieberman was so upset when the Legislature started preparing for action...they (Gore) wanted a win in Seminole at the last minute so the votes for Gore would have to be certified.

I think the Legislature knew this as well...and wanted to be ready to jump in.

Does anyone know how Judge Sauls was selected? From what I know of Florida politics it was a done deal the moment he was selected........a conservative Democrat is another name for Republican......so I wondered if Jed had any hand in that selection....some how I bet he did?

>>>I think the only reason the legislature backed off was they felt Judge Sauls was going to rule for Bush.<<<

I think if you go back to the public record, you'll find Florida State Senator McKay with public statements noting he was hesitant for Florida's legisature to get involved, well before Sauls' trial began.

Florida's House, whose members control safe seats in small districts, might have been apt to stick their collective nose into the presidential mess on behalf of Bush, however the make-up and political aspirations of the state's senators is different. It would have been political suicide for a Florida senator to risk alienating up to have of those who'd vote for him or her within wider districts, and the same would be true for any of 'em holding statewide political aspirations.

FACT: You can't expect to win a statewide election with half of the voters already vehemently opposed to you. To be logical about this, those odds would be greater than the odds Hillary Clinton encountered in New York.

CONCLUSION: The Florida legislature didn't get involved because doing so would have been political suicide. The very threat of them doing so was nothing but GOPwinger PR designed to take potshots at Gore.
