i don't have links to charts covering the latter period...i do have a printed one in front of me, so i know exactly what you're talking about.

as for the BoJ, i do believe they started to ease in early '91...if i remember correctly.

while i have no sentiment data, i can confirm it was sliding down the slippery slope of hope...insofar it was quite similar. i remember the general commentary at the time...conviction that the bull would reassert itself presently was high throughout the denouement(the mantra was "Japan is different").

btw, Rydex ratio collapsed to 0,11 today....the drop was so sharp as to suggest heavy inflows into bull funds, respectively heavy outflows from the bear funds. as of now, almost 72% of all bull assets remain in tech. overweighting at its finest.

imo the current sentiment picture in both positioning measures and polls is not constructive for the bulls. it will be important to see what the CoT's are like on Friday to confirm this further...fact is, with the NAZ off somewhat less than 50% now, the overall Rydex ratio is only 0,03 above its all time low.
