I love the way Democrats use visual language which is so divorced from reality it's amusing.

Let me ask you this PartyTime? Do you really believe Republicans were physically "camped out in her offices for as long as three weeks"?

How large was the tent? Do you think they brought a Colman stove and cooked eggs using a propane heater too? :)

No, I don't think it's funny that ANY candidate in a close election requests a hand count, especially given what we now clearly know about voting machine technology.

We have also learned a lot about hand counts. The *error* (manufactured votes) in the hand count in Broward county is more serious than the *error* (failure to read improperly executed votes) in the machine count. The hand count IS biased whereas the machine count is not.

Proving imperfection in one system does not prove perfection in another.

At this point in time I would not trust a machine or hand count. It is too easy to *lose* a few ballots.

Yes, I do think it's funny and it should be intersting. There's no shortage of sideshows. What will make it really interesting is if the Florida Supreme Court is put in the position of having to contradict their own precedent in a similar case.

No, I don't think it's funny that ANY candidate in a close election requests a hand count, especially given what we now clearly know about voting machine technology. And long-time politicos have known about the problem of voting machines for a long, long time. This is one of the reasons why hand counts got allowed in the first place.

As we're learning from New Mexico, Florida is not the only state that allows candidates to request hand recounts in specific counties only. And that's all Gore did, under Florida law. And, of course, we all know the outrage which followed, this outrage charged by GOPwinger public relations.

So, in answer to your question, Bush has every right to request his hand recount in New Mexico and I don't blame him for doing so.

I agree, Bush had the right to request it. I'm just not sure why he bothered, given NM's # of electoral votes. Maybe Bush requested the recount simply because the outcome was so close there? But he did have the right to request it, absolutely.
