I wonder if AMD can come out with a Palomino that runs for short periods of time at 1.6 GHz or even faster, but most of the time "ambles along" at 1.1 or 1.2. A "notebook" version would peak at 1 GHz and throttle back to 600 MHz for most operations.

Viola! AMD has a "1.6 GHz" Palomino that outperforms the 1.5 GHz P4 and a "1 GHz" notebook chip that outperforms a PIII-850.

AMD non-existent marketing would not need "" around the peak clock frequency.
