Hi U Up U Down, from the MSNBC article:

“I make this anti-patriotic statement eight years ago,” Baldwin griped. “

I say... Get out of my country.

Standing firm for a fair count

Once a lackluster
candidate, Gore
now defends
the rights of all
Florida’s voters
to be counted
Al Gore continues to pursue all legal strategies
for a fair count of the ballots, despite legal
setbacks.

Dec. 5 — Here we go again. The Gore campaign has
sustained yet another dual defeat. The Bush
campaign is proceeding as if the election is no
longer in dispute and the pundits are calling on
Gore to make it official. And yet, as Galileo
reputedly said, it moves. Gore will not quit. Even
after Judge N. Sander Saul’s’ surprisingly harsh
decision in Leon County Circuit Court, and the
U.S. Supreme Court’s refusal to accept the Florida
Supreme Court’s pro-Gore decision of two weeks
ago, the fight goes forward. Gore claims he still
has not yet received a fair count of all the
legitimate votes cast. And he’s right.

Bush is winning the
presidency purely on
the basis of naked
political muscle. If he
needs more than he’s
gotten so far, say in
the Florida legislature
or the U.S. House of
Representatives, he’ll
use that too.

WE STILL DON’T know if he will ever get one. George
Bush, along with his surrogates (or more likely, his puppeteers)
repeat their mantra over and over as if in an unrecoverable trance.
“The votes have been counted and recounted and recounted a
third time,” they intone, zombie-like. And each time, they say, Al
Gore has come up short.
-----
I say “no, thanks” to Bush’s self-serving definition of unity.
The end is near, yes. And Al Gore richly earned this defeat with
his phlegmatic campaign. But the after-election has transformed
Gore from a kind of establishment robot to a champion of
democracy. That makes him our champion too. He’s right to stay
and fight.
