It's about the fairness of the election - not about Al Gore.
Day by day, the truth is emerging. The legitimacy of a Bush Administration has been seriously impaired and is getting further damaged with each passing day. It would greatly help his legitimacy to allow the manual recount of those disputed ballots but he is afraid to take that chance. So the contest will wear on even after the court cases are concluded and even after the inaugeration. The #1 topic of discussion for the next four years will be - Who really won the election? The battle will not be waged by Democratic congress people but by surrogates and writers. The topic is just too interesting and fascinating to disappear from the public discourse.
