Dave,

Good articles....it is clear that the CLECS are dying left and right. It is also clear that the CSCO's, NT's and LU's are providing financing to the CLECs and some RBOCs. One article states that the RBOCs are gobbling up the CLECs. I expect that to happen but it hasn't happen yet. A merger between two CLECs just failed due to valuation problems.

So here are the questions to answer:

Why are the CLECs not making $$$? Why are people currently concerned with a surplus of broadband? If CLECs are a dying breed and all that will be left are the RBOCs, will business remain at current levels for both VRTA and GSPN? Both claim that business in Asia is picking up the slack in their N.American business....is that true?

The downtrend for both stocks has yet to be broken..indicating at least to me that they are not out of the woods, today's rally in those stocks not withstanding.

I like both companies but I think until it is clear what is happening with the economy and when the feds will lower interest rates, I would treat the two stocks as trading buys....in fact I think we need to be careful with all stocks at this point. Yesterday, I thought we were finally having a Santa Claus rally...instead it was just another bear rally. First time I bought anything in weeks and probably now will have to sell all in the next few days.
