My political back ground was forged early on by my grand father who was a product of the depression era. He was a descent hard working man that would fight anyone that had kind words to say about Herbert Hoover. I would sit for hours and listen to him tell stories about jumping on freight trains in search of any kind of work or the time they took over a relief center and started handing out commodities to the crowd because some jackass refused to help a hungry woman and child from "across the river".

My conversion to conservatism came more from viewing the affects liberal policies had on the poor and the destructive nature toward the family structure. Plus, at some point along the line, I began to think for myself and was fully on board during the early Reagan years. And though I understand exactly why my grand father was a life long democrat, I prefer to think he would have not been very pleased with what his party has become if he were still alive.
