Judges have a lot of discretion over the manner in
which evidence is presented. To allow the transcripts
to be read was well within that discretion, regardless
of whether there were multiple or ulterior motives on the
part of the lawyers making the request.

This trial should not be very long anyway, and since it
was the parties who would least be served by delay who made the request, all the more reason for the court to allow it.
