Hering, Does anyone know the price per pound premium of Si28?
That will be far more than 435 per wafer, esp if all the way through.

Ref <using Epi wafers should add about $35 to the wafer cost >

Most semiconductor manufacturers already use epitaxial silicon wafers. The epitaxial silicon is lightly doped, while the substrate is heavily doped to suppress latch-up.

Since the wafers are already epitaxial, the only incremental cost of the isotopicaly pure silicon is the higher silicon material cost, and the lower manufacturing volumes.

Another note, the extremely heavily doped substrate (used in today technologies) should have a higher thermal conductivity than the epi layer, due to the high electron density in the substrate.

So isotopically pure epi layer appears to be a good idea. All that remains is implemnting it high volumes, which will probably take a few years.
