this press release storm from GE makes me suspect that the real...and bad...news are being buried in a tout campaign. very suspicious.

I dunno, plastics is big business. I'd rather purchase plastics over the net than deal with one of those slimy plastics sales reps.

Also, I am assuming that these customers usta purchase these goods over their EDI system handled out of their GEIS division. All they did was lose money by taking customers off of the x.25 network and convert them to the web. They used to charge subscription fees and a transaction fee for every order that was sent using this system.

So, is that good news or bad news?

I'm willing to bet that part of the exec comp (aka bonus) is tied to growth in internet sales (not necessarily total sales). This was a big Welch initiative.
