incidently, George W could learn a heap from McGovern's book about his daughter's struggles with alcohol.

The Democrats could learn a heap from McGovern's experiences in trying to run a small business and getting destroyed by government regulations.

Alcoholism is a terrible scourge in this country. Your flippant treatment of the subject is despicable.

Before becoming a politician, he was a history professor....One of the interesting facets of "McGovernism" is that it had a historical connection to the Wallace-ite insurgency. McGovern was a supporter of Henry Wallace, and thus a legitimate heir to the left wing of the Democratic Party. One of the reasons that the old, anti- communist Left turned against the New Left was its indifference to communist infiltration and co- optation.(The Progressive Labor Party, a Maoist group, ended up taking over the SDS and destroying it, for example). Since the brief against Wallace was that he was naive about Stalinism, and too eager to form another Popular Front, it is also appropriate that McGovern became the candidate through which the New Left achieved its greatest influence in the Democratic Party. It is also natural that a large number of older Leftist, like Sidney Hook, should have fought McGovernism, and that some of them should have left the party entirely........
