Actually, Drew, I said nothing about the military. Whether the absentee ballots in Seminole County were from the military or not is irrelevant. They may have been or may not have been. The fact is that Republicans wish to maintain that Ms. Harris had "no choice" but to certify the election exactly when she did, and could not have accepted the votes that came in after the 5:00 PM deadline (both of which are false--the SC said that she could have accepted votes at 9:00 AM the following morning if the office was not open--which it ordinarily would not have been). On the other hand, they wish to maintain the blatant violation of the law by Republican officials was just a "technicality", of no real import. Actually, the law was passed by the Republican FL legislature in response to widespread voter fraud in FL over the previous several years, including fraud with respect to absentee ballots.

I also said nothing about people "inferring" anything. Inspecting the ballots from Miami wouldn't necessarily have to involve looking at "dimples" for Gore to win this election. It may just be a matter of hanging chads, which doesn't involve much inferrence. Even the patent application for these machines said that hand counting is necessary in close elections.

However, the truth is this--Gore actually did win the election, if we presume with Pat Buchanan that most of the 3,500 votes for him in Palm Beach were actually intended for Gore. That may not turn out to be the fact, but it is the truth nonetheless. FWIW (not very much).
