John,

<< We don't have plans at this time to expand beyond 40 at a time. Personally, I prefer 40 to 100... it's a little easier to absorb from my perspective & not as much scrolling >>

Really. Have you used the SI (Classic) add on called BrowseMaster?

Have you consulted with Craig Richard's, its author?

Fetching 100 (or 40) was only one of many fine features of the add on.

Some time ago Catlady, acting on behalf of long time SI users, and with their cooperation, compiled a list of prioritized Browsemaster (BM) features.

On Thursday, Jun 22, 2000 Bryan Burdick informed readers on the "BrowseMaster" thread"

"Let me start with a sincere apology. We had ever intention of tackling the BM features this quarter, but sometimes the best laid plans ... As soon as the database upgrade is complete, the BM features are right at the top of the list. Again, my humble apologies. I sincerely appreciate your patience. "

A great deal of time has passed since this was posted.

The fact of the matter is that BrowseMaster provided a great deal of functionality and ease of use that is still VERY lacking on SI.

Would you please advise a status report on the planned introduction of BM features.

Thank you.

- Eric -

Since Eric brought up the subject, I'll just reference
a couple of Bryan's posts on the subject of adding Browsemaster-like functionality to SI.

So, when's it going to happen?

Hi Craig and all,

Same here, BrowseMaster hasn't found its equal in the new SI
yet, SI doesn't even come close... If you need a show of
hands, I will also send email to the SI team to request
that Craig be the one to do it for them... So far the SI
"execution" on promises to us leaves a lot to be desired...

/Piotr

P.S. By the way, I now only follow maybe two or three
threads as I don't really feel like doing all these mouse
clicks to just keep up with all the threads of interest.

The "wholesale" method as per the BrowseMaster is it!

Okay John, I'd opt for this one, let me know what you think.

I'm cruzing through SI, I run across this post #reply-14974453 and want to save it to file. You asked me how might SI do this. How about putting the option in place of "ignore this person"? Than it would take you to your files page where we could decide where to place it.

There is already an ignore button in the "profile" page. That seems good enough to me.

Hi John...The InBox Public messages used to show which link the message is from. It doesn't show that now. Why??

The InBox Messages (all of them) are in a smaller font...is that a perm or temp situation?

Is there any way that we could "remove" several messages, or "file" several messages at the same time?

Also, is there a way we could remove several bookmarked threads at the same time? (similiar to the process with the portfolio and the little boxes....)
Thanks! KLP

John, I hope that you will consider adding at least a few of the great BrowseMaster features. I was a BM user and refused to use the "new" SI interface untl the classic interface came along. It is barely adequate. I can't imagine using the vanilla SI interface. It would cost me hours a day.

Heavy users need heavy tools.

Good Morning,

I am going to bring up an old subject that while talked about and was actually chosen as a feature in the past, it was never implimented, but was dropped because it didn't seem very popular at the time. Being a long time resident here I have seen quite a few things go on that has caused some concern amoung everybody when they occur, well they have really reared their head this time. I am talking about folks getting so rude and vulgar that they get bumped to SI Jail and then either themselves (with different ID's) or their friends start all manner of attacks against SI directly. They get away with this for one reason only, SI does not show who and why they bump someone. I don't feel it would be right to disclose so much information as to cross any privacy barriers, but creating a thread called Jail and listing the persons ID (most use an alias anyway), the reason for suspension, length of suspension, and how many previous times it had happened. I feel that this would cut the work load of SI Admin, stop all the slander that follows a suspension but printing the truth.
I know that folks don't want everyone to know when and if they have been suspended, but I'm sorry, if you break the rules you loose the right to total privacy. Just as in the real world, you get your name in the papers and that helps deter wrong behavior. The argument of rights will be brought up loud and clear, privacy will be screamed from the roof tops, but the truth cannot be silenced. As an example, sex offenders cried foul when they had to be registered, I didn't hear honest people defending them, crooks cried foul when papers printed their names and their crimes, but honest people have nothing to fear from this, only those that break the rules. I have written to Admin once to try and get something done, here is his response

"I think that's an excellent idea and definitely bears further evaluation. It would likely be viewed as very helpful by many members of the site, and would likely help me and Jeff in our admin duties.
Bob"

A lot of time is wasted each day in defending SI when no defense should be needed. People break the rules sometimes, they pay a price for that, and some break the rules so often as to be permanantly barred, but the misinformation that always follows does great harm to SI.

I would like some feedback on this please.
