Elmer,

P4's SPEC scores are now officially posted.

Fastest Integer processor on earth.
Second fastest FP processor on earth.

You seem to have taken some rather large liberties in your interpretation of the significance of one benchmark.

Elmer, the Pentium 4's SPEC2000 scores, both integer and FP, are very close to those for the Alpha 21264. Funny thing how the Alpha only runs at 833 MHz, compared to 1.5 GHz for the Pentium 4.

I expect Itanium to beat Alpha in SPEC2000 clock-for-clock, meaning that Itanium could have roughly twice the performance per clock as Pentium 4. Of course, Pentium 4 makes up for the deficiency with extreme clock speeds. But what do you suppose is possible when a future Itanium processor (i.e. McKinley) is designed for high clock speeds, just like Pentium 4 (or at least Pentium III and Athlon)?
