Pretty common scam from West African countries, usually Nigeria. Nigerian government periodically takes out ads in US papers to warn the unwary.

Until A Little While Ago Abidjan Was Doing Well

Then there was some type of problem with "government succession" and things have gone to hell and it is not a nice place to live.

I wonder how he expects to get the money into the account? Bring 12 mil. into Western Union and tell them he want to wire it to the US.

My understanding is people are getting killed there for $12 forget 12 million.

A friend of mine got a phone call from SAfrica and the guy sent him a fax with the exact same message (I've read it). He said he found his phone number from the Bureau of Trade in SA which is believable since his father does business with the SA government. My friend asked for my opinion and I told him the whole deal stunk and he'd be lucky not being kidnapped let alone making any money.
