sort of...officialdom's mission in economic life is to exude optimism, no matter what. you should see the stuff Hoover said in 1930 and 31...he sounded every time as if the boom was going to restart at any moment. also held lots of meetings with economists, banksters, businessmen, what have you. none of these meetings ever produced any tangible results. but he looked busy.

now check this from Ferguson: "We must be equally vigilant against the risk of either an extended period of
growth unacceptably below potential, or a resurgence of inflation"

sounds like he just came from one of those meetings...
