When I first subscribed to ATHM I requested the email address rondior@home.com. They had told me I couldn't have it because it was reserved. I said "well who the heck would have reserved that, can you make sure that it wasn't me reserving it on a prior date?" They said there was no way for them to check without going through many many avenues. Then they said that I would have to take rondior1@home.com if I wanted to set my e-mail up without a problem. I had no time to fight about e-mail so I just took rondior1@home. A few years had passed until about a month ago I moved into my new house having @home installed once again. Then started the e-mail woes as usual. Once again I tried to get rondior@home and they said it was still reserved (almost 3 years later). I explained to them that this had been reserved for many years and I wanted them to release it. They gave me another number to call and that gentlemen gave me another number to call. Finally I got to the bottom of it. They said that I had signed up with excite back in 95 and took the email rondior@excite.com. They said that excite was funny about releasing e-mail names and that it would be next to impossible to get it off of them. Of course I replied, "aren't the companies one in the same?", he said "yes and no!"(Not even the employees know). Now by this point I am ready to tie the phone cord around his neck, so I calmly say "alright, then just give me rondior1@home.com. He says "OK" and then after several minutes he informs me that I could no longer get rondior1@home.com because it was already taken. You see the cable hook up we had in my previous house happened to be in my wife's name and the new cable hookup was now in my name, therefore only she could use the address (cable had to be in her name). Now here is the best part. I needed to use my e-mail right then and my wife wasn't going to be home until much later that evening, so I said to the guy "well what can we do about my email, it's very important that I use it and have been waiting a long time to straighten out this problem?", so he says "well you can always go with rondior2@home.com ". At that point, I ripped my hair out of my head, jumped out my office window, ran back up the stairs and said "OK I'll take it". So if anyone wants to email me it is now officially rondior2@home.com.
