I think gold is a pretty way to play the hard landing associated with energy and/or other factors such as the stock market crashing, greatly reduce cap ex, or bad consumer and corporate debt.

You can bet if oil spikes to $40 this winter and NG stays high that gold will continue to do well. I'm not sure if a recession looks more and more likely that you'll be able to say the same for oil/gas stocks.

I'm liking the yellow stuff these days.
